Branding techniques

Branding that lasts as long as the garment.

Four specialist techniques, each with its own strengths. We help you pick the right finish for the fabric, the wash cycle and the impression you want every team member to make on day one and day five hundred.

Close-up of a premium embroidered badge on navy fabric 01 · Premium tier

Embroidery badges

The gold standard. Thread stitched directly into the garment for a raised, tactile finish that looks sharper with every wash.

  • Premium tactile finish Satin-stitch detail with raised thread for logos that feel as good as they look.
  • Industrial-wash safe Colour-fast threads rated for high-temperature commercial laundry cycles.
  • Unlimited colour detail Thread matching to PMS, gradients, fine type — nothing flattens out.

Best for

  • Corporate polos
  • Hi-vis workwear
  • Bespoke headwear
  • Hospitality aprons

Printed woven badges

Woven threads carry the design, then printed detail is layered on for crisp type and photo-quality logos at scale.

  • Crisp type at any size Printed overlay keeps hairlines and small caps perfectly legible.
  • Sewn, not stuck Folded & stitched into the seam so the badge becomes part of the garment.
  • Cost-efficient at volume Looms are dialled in once and run thousands at the same unit price.

Best for

  • Care labels
  • Neck branding
  • Volume runs
  • Heritage brand feel
Overlocked merrowed-edge woven badge with the PureGuard shield 03 · Industrial laundry

Woven over-locked badges

Woven centre panel with a dense merrowed over-locked edge — sewn onto the garment so the badge becomes part of the fabric, not stuck on top of it.

  • Industrial-wash safe Sewn-on construction — not heat-pressed — so it survives repeated commercial laundry cycles.
  • Merrowed edge — no fray Dense overlocked border locks the threads; nothing lifts, peels or unravels.
  • Crisp detail at any size Woven threads carry fine type, gradients and small marks without flattening.

Best for

  • Hi-vis workwear
  • Coveralls
  • Outerwear
  • Volume laundry runs
Premium personalised name tags for uniforms 04 · Personal

Name tags

Metal, woven or embroidered name tags that make every team member identifiable — across customer-facing and back-of-house roles.

  • Engraved or embroidered Choose brushed metal, anodised aluminium or sewn embroidered name strips.
  • Replaceable per staff Swap names without re-branding the whole garment as your team changes.
  • Magnetic or pin-back Magnetic closure protects delicate fabrics & avoids puncturing the garment.

Best for

  • Customer-facing teams
  • Healthcare
  • Hospitality
  • Retail

Compare the techniques, side by side.

A quick scannable reference. Every technique we offer is engineered for repeated commercial laundry cycles — iron-on transfers are not on the list because they don't survive industrial washing.

Why PureGuard

Garment and brand solutions.

Most apparel suppliers treat branding as an afterthought. We treat it as part of the same spec sheet — so the finish matches the fabric, the colours land in the right place, and the garment arrives on site ready to wear.

Start your project
  • 20+ years in apparel

We know which finishes survive industrial wash and which fall off in week three.

  • PMS colour matching

Your brand colours, matched to thread or print, with a physical embroidery sample produced from your logo at time of order.

  • Combined quote

Garment, branding and freight on a single document — no finger-pointing between suppliers.

  • One contact, end to end

Same phone number from artwork approval to delivery — no ticket queues.

Why embroidery stands out

Why embroidery is the best fit for food-manufacturing uniforms.

Embroidery strikes the best balance of longevity, professionalism and safety compliance for most food manufacturing settings. The charts below show why — and where each alternative falls short.

Durability & wash resistance

Uniforms undergo frequent, high-temperature industrial laundering. Stitched thread holds up extremely well — often outlasting the garment itself — without cracking, peeling, fading or flaking like many printed methods.

Professional appearance

A premium, textured, high-quality look that reinforces brand identity on lab coats, aprons, shirts and jackets.

Food-safety compatibility

When done on suitable low-lint fabrics, embroidery integrates tightly into the fabric — fewer loose threads, fewer HACCP/GFSI compliance headaches.

Durability score, by branding method

Wash cycles retained before cracking or peeling

Higher is better. Embroidery is the only method that consistently outlasts the garment itself. Sublimation is excluded because it requires 100% polyester fabric, which is not HACCP-eligible for cotton food-manufacturing uniforms.

Wash cycles retained before cracking or peeling, by branding method Horizontal bar chart comparing the durability of four branding methods across industrial laundering. Embroidery: 200 to 300+ cycles. Screen printing: 50 to 100+ cycles. DTG direct-to-garment printing: 20 to 40 cycles. Heat transfer vinyl: 20 to 50 cycles depending on film quality. Sublimation is excluded because it requires polyester fabric. 100 cycles 200 cycles 300+ cycles 200–300+ 50–100+ 20–40 20–50 cycles cycles cycles cycles Embroidery · 200–300+ Screen printing · 50–100+ DTG / direct print · 20–40 Heat transfer / vinyl · 20–50 Sublimation · not eligible* * Sublimation dyes polyester and only polyester — excluded from HACCP cotton food-uniform specs. Aggregated from ISO 6330 / AATCC TM61 lab testing, vendor technical data sheets (Siser, Stahls, Plastisol), Spectrum Workwear 2026 guide, Eagle Ridge 50-wash test. Method Durability (washes) Hygiene / safety fit Cost for small runs Best for Drawbacks in food mfg.
Recommended
Embroidery
Excellent (200–300+) Strong (if quality thread + backing) Higher Logos on coats, aprons, polos Higher upfront cost; less ideal for very intricate multi-colour designs
Screen printing Good (50–100+) Moderate Lower (bulk) Large simple graphics Plastisol ink can crack / peel over time, potentially creating particles
Heat transfer / vinyl Fair – good (20–50) Weaker Variable Quick / custom runs Cheap PVC film lifts under industrial tunnel-wash; contamination risk
DTG / direct print Moderate (20–40) Moderate Good for small Detailed images, full-colour art Water-based inks fade faster under chlorinated industrial wash
Not eligible
Sublimation
Permanent* (polyester only) N/A Higher All-over print on sportswear, breathable panels * Requires 100% polyester — excluded by HACCP cotton food-uniform specs

Screen printing is a solid, more affordable option for large volumes and simpler designs, but it generally doesn’t match embroidery’s longevity under harsh laundering.

Key recommendations for food manufacturing

01 — HACCP / GFSI compliance

Choose uniforms with pocketless designs (or limited secure pockets), antimicrobial fabrics, knit cuffs and low-lint / shed-resistant materials. Branding should not compromise these.

02 — Placement

Left chest for primary logo (visible but not obstructive), upper back or sleeves for secondary branding. Avoid areas prone to heavy soiling or abrasion.

03 — Work with specialists

Partner with uniform providers who handle compliant garments and professional embroidery — ensuring the application withstands industrial processes.

04 — Test for your environment

A small trial run is worth it. Specific fabrics, wash chemicals and facility zones (wet / cold processing) all matter.

05 — Other tips

Use colour-coded uniforms for zones if needed. Combine embroidery with name tags for personalisation & accountability.

Embroidery strikes the best balance of longevity, professionalism and safety compliance for most food manufacturing settings. If your logos are highly complex or you’re on a tight budget for very large orders, screen printing (or a hybrid approach) could be a practical alternative. Consult PureGuard Apparel today.

Bespoke · Custom Made · Made to Order

Bulk offshore bespoke apparel, made to your spec.

We design, sample and manufacture custom garments offshore in volume — from your fabric, colour, branding and sizing, all the way through to delivery to your door. Built for teams that need a uniform range no one else can supply.

First order
6–8 months

Conception to delivery, including sampling, approvals, production and freight. Built around your spec — not off the shelf.

Repeat orders
3–4 months

Once your spec is locked in, repeat runs are faster — same factory, same patterns, no re-sampling required, just from order confirmation to delivery.

Fabric MOQ
Varies by fabric

Minimum order quantities differ by fabric type. Common poly/cotton runs start lower; specialty, FR, recycled and custom-dyed fabrics carry higher minimums. We’ll confirm exact MOQs when we quote.

Bulk offshore
Heavy discounts

Larger runs unlock significantly lower per-unit pricing. The more you commit, the more you save on every garment.

  • Fabric and colour to your specification
  • Custom patterns and sizing
  • Your branding applied — embroidery, woven or printed
  • Pre-production sample before bulk run
  • Direct factory-to-door freight
  • Single point of contact end to end
Smarter Uniform Solutions

Smarter uniform solutions for food manufacturing.

Many food manufacturers opt for managed rental and laundry services for convenience — yet these contracts often result in substantial ongoing costs through repeated rental and servicing fees.

By choosing a DIY approach with our high-quality uniforms, you can achieve significantly better value. The budget typically spent on a managed service over the contract term can instead equip your team with more garments per user, delivering greater flexibility, backup stock, and full control — all while eliminating recurring expenses.

It’s a practical, professional choice that keeps your workforce looking sharp and your operations cost-efficient for the long term.
